enigine running Hot

I have a 2001 Ford Taurus and the car is running hot. What should I check?

Check the dumb stuff? try replacing the thermo, is the fan kicking on, im just starting the cooling part of the book, trying to learn some more stuff.....

1. ck fan opp
2. water moving through radiater?
if no water moving,remove thermostat refill ck again.if still no movement it coulbd be a loose/brocken impeller in pump.
if you get movement and seems ok now/replace thermost.
3. radiater shows signs of being pluged? Ie:crap crusted over tube ends?
4 does it heat up realy fast? if so,possible head/head gasket failure,often times accompanied with pushing water out of radiater on start up/or lots of bubbles in the water in the radiater while running.

the water temp goes up in the monte from time to time...i just punch the top of the dash and that tends to fix it....lol

my convertion van some times needs a good wack all the gauges start floating all over one wack and its ok.

Charger528 is right on the spot. Radiator fin blockage is a big cause of overheating........I know from experience.
