Postby campia on Mon Mar 24, 2008 3:23 pm

i want to true dual rather than 1 muffler split to 2. So i stop by my local muffler shop and the guy ask me to get some pics from other 4th gens., so he could get a better idea on how to run the pipes. do any of you have true dual exhaust, or know anywhere i could get pics to help out.

thanx campia

I'm not an expert on the flow of exhaust on the LS1 given certain mods, but I remember my engine builder mention something about it not really being worth the hassle on a car that has less than 500 rwhp. A decent catback is sufficient enough to allow the car to breathe enough along with long tubes and no cats/gutted cats. With a decent catback exhaust system and long tubes, if you have cats then the cats are the bottleneck in the system. From what it sounded like, the true dual x pipe isn't worth the minor gain and they can have ground clearance issues.

I understand a lot of people like the cool factor or the sound of it. But just tossing that out there in case you were looking for any significant power gains. I also would talk to someone who has more experience with this stuff. I'm just kind of passing on what I've heard to the best of my knowledge..

I went 12s with a single 3 inch

the floors of 3rd generations and likely 4th do not allow for exhaust to be run on opposite sides of the car without a ridiculous amount of effort....

if you really need something free flowing, maybe consider a 3.5 inch intermediate pipe, maybe even split it to two small mufflers in the rear rather than the cross over type..

$1600? that best be over the axle.... or thats def way to expensive dude... seriously go on summit or jegs order a 2.5inch universal x-pipe and buy some bullet straight through mufflers and some band clamps and build it urself just with dumps before the rear axle instead of going over the axle..... its not too hard its just like clamping parts together...itwould cost u like $400 total

oh yea and there is nothing like the sound of true duals... dont let anyone else tell u different... stop by my garage one weekend i'll show u my setup
